Transfer Credit

The College does not guarantee transferability of credits to any other institution. Any decision in comparability, appropriateness, and applicability of credits and whether they should be accepted is at the discretion of the receiving institution.

Incoming students requesting transfer credit from other accredited institutions must submit official transcripts prior to initial registration. Transfer credits after the initial semester must be approved by the Dean prior to registering for a non-Chamberlain course. All transfer credit must conform to residency and curriculum requirements. Transferring courses may affect eligibility for financial assistance. The student should contact the Financial Aid Office for more information. Transfer students applying for financial assistance should submit a financial aid transcript from each college previously attended.

For a course to be considered for transfer, an official transcript demonstrating the completion of the course(s), with a grade of C or better, must be submitted to the Registrar to verify the course content and to ensure its consistency with Chamberlain requirements. A statistics course must be taken at a four-year institution and taught within the mathematics department to be accepted for credit. Science courses older than 10 years must be approved by the Dean for transfer. Exception is made for registered nurse applicants. Transfer of nursing credits from another accredited nursing program are considered on an individual basis. For students seeking initial licensure, the nursing course work may be no more than five (5) years old to be considered for transfer.

Transfer Students

Chamberlain College of Nursing welcomes transfer students from two- and four-year colleges accredited by agencies recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Students should be aware that actual degree requirements vary from institution to institution. If considering a transfer to Chamberlain College of Nursing, students should examine the Chamberlain College of Nursing requirements early in their college experience to begin making transfer plans in advance.

Transfer students should follow the Chamberlain College of Nursing admission guidelines and procedures. Transfer students applying for financial assistance are required to submit a financial aid transcript from each college previously attended. Chamberlain College of Nursing residency requirement for the BSN program is 24 credit hours; 28 credit hours must be completed at Chamberlain College of Nursing for the ADN program.

  • General education courses will be reviewed for  transferability if the courses are congruent with
the applicable program curriculum. The evaluation includes the courses accepted in transfer and  how they meet specific course requirements in the Chamberlain College of Nursing curriculum.
  • Students who are transferring should be in good standing at the institution last attended and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. A grade of “C” or better is required for all transfer work.
  • Credit for science courses will be given if the course has a laboratory component and was completed with a grade of “C” or better in the last 10 years.
  • The registered nurse applicant has no time constraint on science courses.
  • A statistics course must be taken at a four-year institution and taught within the mathematics department to be accepted for transfer credit.
  • Transfer of a nursing course from another accredited nursing program is considered on an individual basis.
  • Transfer credits are accepted at the beginning of the student’s program of study or upon prior
    permission of the dean.
