Nursing is ranked one of the top professions – Nurses are in high demand

Registered nursing is ranked as one of the top occupations through the year 2012.1

More than 2.8 million new and replacement nurses will be needed by 2020 to address the country’s severe nursing shortage.2

By the year 2020, there will be an estimated shortage of over one million nurses nationwide.3

Approximately 587,000 additional jobs will open for registered nurses each year through 2016 - a 23.5% increase.4

Employment of registered nurses is expected to grow faster than any other occupation through 2016.4

More than 40,285 qualified applicants from baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs were turned away from U.S. nursing schools in 2007.5
