MSN Admission Information

It is strongly recommended that completed applications be submitted as early as possible, along with any supporting materials. Applications are taken for each session.

Admission Procedure

Prospective students must complete an application and interview with a Chamberlain admission advisor. When all admission requirements are fulfilled, applicants are notified in writing of their admission status.

General Admission Requirements

Chamberlain College of Nursing looks for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Earned Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Unrestricted U.S. RN
  • A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the BSN degree*

In addition to fulfilling all other admission requirements, applicants from countries where English is not the primary language, and applicants whose native language is not English, must demonstrate English-language proficiency. Please see the Admissions Process section for additional information.

*Probationary Admission

Applicants who meet all general admission requirements, but who have a GPA between 2.75 to 2.99, may be granted probationary admission under the following guidelines:

  • Students must successfully complete three core graduate nursing courses in the MSN program, earning a grade of B or better to be granted full acceptance into the program.
  • Students under probationary admission status who take a graduate nursing core course and fail to achieve a grade of B or better will be dismissed from the program.
  • Students under probationary admission status may only withdraw from a core graduate course once. Any subsequent withdrawal from the same course will result in dismissal from the program.

Re-admission

Students who were not enrolled within the previous three Chamberlain College of Nursing semesters must apply for readmission. A person seeking readmission must complete and submit an application for admission and meet all admission requirements in effect at the time of readmission.

Transfer of Credit

Incoming students requesting transfer of credit from other accredited institutions must submit official transcripts prior to initial registration. Credit for up to two courses (six semester credit hours) may be transferred from other Chamberlain recognized graduate schools. Chamberlain-recognizes graduate schools that are accredited by agencies approved by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

To receive transfer credit:

  • The course or courses taken are equivalent to a Chamberlain College of Nursing course in content, level, and credit hours.
  • The grades earned were B or higher.
  • Courses taken on a pass/fail basis may not be transferred. Transfer credit does not effect GPA calculations. Chamberlain does not transfer credit for life experience or proficiency examinations.

Admission Process

A student seeking admission must:

  • Complete the Admissions Application and submit it with the $60 application fee.
  • Provide official transcripts from the college or university where the baccalaureate nursing degree was earned.
  • Provide official transcript from a college or university showing completion of an undergraduate statistics course with a grade of C or better.
  • Provide proof of unrestricted RN licensure.

In addition, applicants from countries where English is not the primary language spoken, and applicants whose native language is not English, must demonstrate English-language proficiency by providing evidence of one of the following:

  • Having scored at least 550 on the paper-based Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); Having scored at least 213 on the computer-based TOEFL, or at least 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL.
  • Having successfully completed four consecutive years of a secondary education or higher in which the language of instruction was English.
  • Having completed at least 2 consecutive years of full-time study (12 or more semester hours per semester) with a 2.75 or higher at a post-secondary institution at which English was the language of instruction.
  • Having an overall band score of at least 6.5, and no lower than 6.0 on the International Language Testing System (IELTS) examination.

New Student Information

After acceptance to Chamberlain College of Nursing, the following is required before course registration:

  1. Submit $100 tuition deposit, made payable to Chamberlain College of Nursing.
  2. If applying for financial aid, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (See Financial Aid section for additional details).
