Take Off with Chamberlain College of Nursing!
Fasten your seat belts! Chamberlain College of Nursing is ready for departure from its former identity as Deaconess College of Nursing. Capitalizing on the strength of the solid, historical foundation of Deaconess College of Nursing and the ingenuity of a new, progressive and expansive nursing program, Chamberlain College of Nursing is leading the future of nursing education.
Introducing Chamberlain College of Nursing
The new name Chamberlain derives from the Middle English word chaumberlein which means "chief steward". Chamberlain exemplifies the nurse as the chief steward of progressive patient care. Chamberlain College of Nursing (CCN) will expand on the Deaconess College of Nursing mission to provide quality and innovative healthcare education. By providing nursing education programs that feature a broad educational foundation and extensive clinical practice component, the college will fulfill its commitment to prepare compassionate and clinically proficient nurses, as well as to foster personal growth, career mobility, community service and leadership among healthcare professionals. Chamberlain is also working to respond to the nation's critical and growing shortage of nursing professionals by broadening our geographic and online reach.
Chamberlain College of Nursing will expand upon the Deaconess College of Nursing mission of providing quality and innovative healthcare education by:
- Addressing the nation's critical nursing shortage:
The federal government estimates that more than one million new and replacement nurses will be needed by 2012. And for the first time, the U.S. Department of Labor has identified Registered Nursing as the top occupation in terms of job growth through the year 2012. Yet the capacity to educate and train new nurses is lacking. More than 15,000 students were turned away from U.S. nursing schools last year due to lack of space.
Responding to the nation's critical and growing nursing shortage, we will increase access to nursing education as well as expand online programs and consider opportunities to open new campuses in markets nationwide.
- Providing progressive educational nursing programs:
Chamberlain will expand on the Deaconess College of Nursing legacy of preparing compassionate, knowledgeable, clinically proficient graduates and fostering personal growth and career mobility for our nursing students. Chamberlain provides quality and innovative undergraduate nursing programs that include: ADN, BSN and RN to BSN degree completion programs.
- Offering a fast track RN to BSN degree completion program:
A progressive online BSN completion program that allows registered nurses to complete their BSN degree in as little as 3 semesters by combining the flexibility of online learning with local on-site clinical training.
