Rights Under Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Chamberlain College of Nursing maintains compliance with the FERPA of 1974 (amended in January 1975 and appearing in its final form in June 1976). The Privacy Act protects the privacy of students’ educational records, establishes students’ rights to inspect and review their academic records, and provides guidelines for correcting inaccurate and misleading data through informal and formal hearings. Generally, only directory information pertaining to a student’s records can be released to any third party without written authorization of the student, judicial order, or a lawfully issued subpoena. Copies of the policy are available in the Student Handbook and/or from the Student Support Coordinator.
