Learning Resources/ Classrooms & Laboratories

Chamberlain College of Nursing, centrally located in St. Louis City, is adjacent to Forest Park Hospital. The College and adjoining buildings house classrooms, conference rooms, nursing arts laboratories, and a computer laboratory. Available facilities provide a comfortable, yet stimulating, envirmonment for intellectual pursuit.

The College utilizes Forest Park Hospital as well as a variety of other hospitals and community agencies to provide meaningful and up-to-date clinical learning experiences. Acute care medical-surgical units, critical and emergency care, community agencies, pediatric hospitals, and specialized care units such as obstretics and psychiatric units offer comprehensive learning opportunities for students. Online students are responsible for securing clinical learning experiences in their home communities.

Nursing arts laboratories provide learning opportunities for students to develop and practice skills and techniques prior to patient care experiences. Available equipment and supplies, similar to those utilized in the patient care settings, familiarize students with health care tools, health assessment and physical examination skills, policies and procedures, and environmental issues.

Computer Laboratory

A computer laboratory is located on the second floor of the College building. Students who do not have adequate experience with computers are required to take a computer lab orientation. After completion of this orientation students may use the computer laboratory for study and written assignments. Students provide their own diskettes. The Internet is available for student use. Student support is available on a limited basis.

Drusch Library

The Drusch Library is conveniently located on the first floor bridge between the College of Nursing and Forest Park Hospital. The library circulates books and audiovisual materials. The library houses a media center with computers, printers, and videotape players. The library also participates in a number of interlibrary loan agreements which allow students to obtain books and articles. Chamberlain students have full borrowing privileges at the Fontbonne Library.


 



Fontbonne University
- Located just minutes from Chamberlain College of Nursing is Fontbonne University, Chamberlain's four-year liberal arts affiliate. The Fontbonne campus occupies 13 acres in Clayton, one of St. Louis’ most prestitious residential communities. Chamberlain students have the combined resources and commitment of both institutions. General education courses are taught by Fontbonne faculty. Chamberlain students may also choose elective courses from Fontbonne’s impressive variety of academic offerings.

The affiliation also allows Chamberlain students the opportunity to enjoy additional recreational and cultural events. Fontbonne has a new student center with a state-of-the-art gymnasium, lockers, exercise and weight rooms, and a cafeteria. For a fee, Chamberlain students may utilize this facility.

The Fine Arts Theater is in production throughout the year. Repertoire includes classical, contemporary, musical and experimental plays. Exhibits of student, faculty, and professional artwork appear in the Fontbonne Library Gallery.

Chamberlain College of Nursing students have full borrowing privileges at the Fontbonne Library, which houses an extensive (well over 100,000-volume) collection of periodicals, magazines, newspapers, art prints, records, tapes, and filmstrips. Quiet reading, typing, and study areas are conveniently located throughout the Library.

The Fontbonne Bookstore is located in Ryan Hall. It is a full-service bookstore offering new and used textbooks. Chamberlain textbooks are sold through the Fontbonne Bookstore. Other items stocked include stationary supplies, clothing, gifts and personal convenience goods. The Web address for the Fontbonne Bookstore is www.Fontbonne.bkstr.com. The Kinkel Learning Center is located on the second floor of the Library Building. Chamberlain students can use a variety of support services without a charge.
