Chamberlain College of Nursing Offers Two New Online Educational Options to Advance Careers New online RN-BSN to MSN and MSN/MBA

Options will help meet growing need for nurse educators and executives

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill.—August 30, 2010—To help meet the needs of patients and providers in a rapidly changing and complex healthcare environment, Chamberlain College of Nursing is launching two new advanced education options for practicing nurses who are interested in becoming managers, educators and executives.  Both new offerings are offered online to support busy nurse professionals interested in pursuing advanced degrees while juggling their responsibilities at work and at home.

“Incredible pressure is being placed on our current pool of skilled nurses.  With healthcare reform, nurses have more responsibility than ever before. They must keep up with rapidly changing technology. And, they are already stretched by high workloads, with a nursing shortage looming,” said Gail Baumlein, Chamberlain’s director and dean of the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) online programs. 

“But on the bright side, this tough environment is creating tremendous opportunity for qualified nurses who take the initiative to pursue advanced degrees to be considered for more senior positions,” Baumlein added. “Chamberlain is proud to offer two new online education options that allow nurses to invest in themselves and advance both their education and careers.” 

New Offerings

The new RN-BSN to MSN Online Bridge Option gives qualified Registered Nurses (RNs) enrolled in Chamberlain’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program the opportunity to begin pursuing their MSN degree while completing their BSN degree by taking selected MSN courses in place of two required BSN courses. The MSN courses offer a more focused, higher level of content than the corresponding BSN courses. This option helps prepare those registered nurses for expanded roles as educators and managers.  Earning the degrees through Chamberlain’s Online Bridge Option is both efficient and cost-effective. 

Qualified Chamberlain students now also have the opportunity to earn both a MSN degree from Chamberlain and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management online in less time than it would take to pursue the degrees separately through a new online option.  Qualifying Chamberlain credits transfer so students can earn a MBA with six additional courses.

Both new offerings are designed to help nurses prepare for expanding roles in healthcare and enhance opportunities for professional development and advancement.   Applications are currently being accepted for both new options.
