Chamberlain College of Nursing Announces New National Dean of Nursing Programs
Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois —May 30, 2007
—Chamberlain College of Nursing announced the appointment of Gail Baumlein as national dean of nursing programs. In this role, Baumlein, who will be based at Chamberlain’s new campus in Columbus, Ohio, will oversee ongoing curriculum development and nursing program delivery. In addition to curriculum development, Baumlein will ensure consistent delivery of curricula at each campus, and will be responsible for fostering faculty development. She will also assist the national clinical coordinator in developing and growing clinical partnerships for the College’s St. Louis, Mo., and Columbus campuses, as well as its online associate degree in nursing program.
Baumlein joins Chamberlain with more than 25 years experience in the healthcare industry. She earned her Ph.D. in education and a Master of Science in Nursing with an adult health specialty and emphasis in nursing education from the University of Akron, and a BSN from The Ohio State University. After more than 10 years as a licensed practicing nurse, Baumlein began a second career as a nursing school instructor and education technology consultant. Prior to joining Chamberlain, Baumlein was assistant professor and online instructional designer at Mount Carmel College of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. She is a nationally-renowned and highly sought after speaker about nursing education and has published a number of book chapters focusing on nursing education and in particular the use of technology in education. She is chairperson of the Instructional Technologies Task Group for the National League for Nursing. In 2005 she was awarded the Ohio League for Nursing Excellence in Teaching Award for “significant contribution to nursing education in Ohio and the teaching and learning of students”. In 2003 Baumlein received the Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award from the University of Akron.
“We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Baumlein to Chamberlain,” said Susan Groenwald, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “With more than 15 years experience helping develop and teach nursing curricula at various nursing schools in Ohio and Colorado, and a national reputation as an expert in nursing education and curriculum, she is uniquely qualified to manage our nursing programs, which develop compassionate and clinically proficient nurses, as well as foster personal growth, career mobility, community service and leadership among our nursing students."
Chamberlain College of Nursing offers associate and BSN degree programs at campuses in St. Louis and Columbus. Additionally, a "Fast Track" degree completion program is offered online to support the professional growth of registered nurses across the country by providing them an opportunity to earn a BSN degree in as few as 3 semesters. This flexible program allows students to complete their coursework online.
“Ohio needs increased access to high-quality nursing education and we look forward to serving the Columbus community and the State of Ohio,” said Susan Groenwald, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “The expansion of Chamberlain programs will allow us to help communities throughout the State of Ohio respond to the critical and growing shortage of nurses that will intensify as Baby Boomers age and the need for healthcare grows.”
Chamberlain College of Nursing is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. Its associate degree program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC). Its BSN program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC) and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
