Dr. Janice Unruh Davidson is recognized for leadership contributions to nursing education and collaborative community mentoring

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – Sept. 13, 2012 – Janice Unruh Davidson, PhD, RN-BC, FNP-BC, NEA-BC, CNE, FAANP, a graduate professor at Chamberlain College of Nursing, is to be inducted as a fellow into the National League for Nursing’s (NLN) Academy of Nursing Education on Sept. 21, 2012 at the annual NLN Education Summit in Anaheim, Calif. Dr. Davidson is one of 32 distinguished nurse educators being inducted this year, joining the 117 fellows representing nursing schools and programs throughout the United States.

“The National League for Nursing relies on these accomplished individuals as allies in our efforts to prepare the nurse educators we need to eliminate the national shortage of nurses,” said Beverly A. Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, chief executive officer of the NLN. “Nurse faculty and colleagues from other fields who contribute to nursing excellence deserve this public acknowledgment for their significant role in elevating the status of the profession.”

Dr. Davidson is being recognized by the NLN for her leadership contributions to nursing education, including her service as an accreditation visitor for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the NLN Accrediting Commission and as a quality curriculum consultant for the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. She is also being acknowledged for her commitment to cultivating collaborative community mentoring that resulted in health education, research grants, primary care and online educational support to nursing and underserved populations.

An active national guest speaker with more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry, Dr. Davidson served in a variety of professional capacities including nursing practice, academics, research, consulting and management. Dr. Davidson holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Texas Woman’s University in Denton and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Wichita State University in Kansas. She is joining Julie McAfooes, MS, RN-BC, CNE, ANEF, web development manager for Chamberlain’s online programs, who was inducted into the NLN Academy of Nursing Education as a fellow in 2010.

“The mission of the NLN is particularly significant in today’s healthcare climate in which a national shortage of nurses and nurse educators continues to affect our workforce,” said Susan Groenwald, Ph.D. (c), MSN, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Dr. Davidson can work with the NLN to help respond to these issues, as well as provide counsel for the incoming pipeline of nurses and nurse educators. Chamberlain is grateful to have her counsel, and we congratulate her as she accepts this recognition of her achievement.”

The NLN established the Academy of Nursing Education to foster excellence in nursing education by recognizing and capitalizing on the wisdom of nurse educators who have made significant contributions to nursing education. Fellows are expected to provide visionary leadership and support the vision of the NLN. Fellowships are awarded by the NLN Board of Governors, the oversight body of the Academy of Nursing Education.
