Chamberlain College of Nursing Appoints Dr. Carla Sanderson as Vice President of Accreditation and Professional Regulation — May 23, 2014

 Chamberlain College of Nursing announced the appointment of Carla Sanderson, PhD, MSN, RN, as vice president of accreditation and professional regulation, beginning June 2. In this new leadership role, Dr. Sanderson will oversee Chamberlain’s state board and accreditation agency approvals and will direct institutional and programmatic accreditation processes, approvals and recognitions.

“Dr. Sanderson’s breadth of experience managing accreditation for academic institutions will be invaluable as she continues to uphold Chamberlain’s commitment to the highest standards of academic quality,” said Susan Groenwald, PhD, MSN, RN, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Accreditation affirms that Chamberlain offers the curriculum, faculty and support resources necessary for students’ success in preparing for integral roles in healthcare. Dr. Sanderson’s extensive academic and regulatory expertise makes her an ideal choice to lead the national accreditation team.”

Dr. Sanderson comes to Chamberlain following a 32-year tenure at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee, where she most recently served as provost and executive vice president for strategic initiatives. At Union University, Dr. Sanderson also served as chief academic officer and chief operating officer and launched several programs, now accredited, in engineering, pharmacy and nurse anesthesia. In addition, she aided the Kurdistan Regional Government in the implementation of accreditation standards for its new higher-education system and has authored several book chapters on academic leadership and ethical decision-making in nursing.

Dr. Sanderson holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Florida, a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Union University. She serves on the boards of trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and Southern College of Optometry.
