Admission Requirements

It is strongly recommended that completed applications, along with any supporting materials for admission, be submitted as early as possible. Applications are taken for each session. Students may apply for admission for summer, fall, or spring semesters. NOTE: Chamberlain does not accept Ability To Benefit students.

General Admission Requirements
Chamberlain College of Nursing candidates must meet the following qualifications:

ADN and 3-year BSN Degree Admission Requirements:

  • A minimum high school cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.75 or
  • A minimum college CGPA of 2.75. The college CPGA must include 24 or more credit hours, excluding developmental courses, from an accredited institution. CGPA achieved in the last five years may take precedence over a prior CGPA. Failure to disclose attendance at other colleges is grounds for denial of admission or for dismissal.
  • A minimum ACT composite score of 21, minimum SAT critical reading and mathematics reasoning (CR-M) score of 990, or a minimum A2 Admission Assessment score of 75.
  • All applicants for pre-licensure programs are required to complete the A2 Admissions Assessment test prior to admission. A student may retake the A2 Admission Assessment test only once after a three-day waiting period and within 30 days of submitting the Application for Admission at no charge. (A retesting fee will be charged, or will apply, after 30 days from application.)

LPN to RN Bridge Option Admission Requirements:
In addition to the general admission requirements listed above, the applicant to the LPN to RN Bridge option must provide evidence of:

  • Current, active LPN or LVN license from the U.S. or from a jurisdiction that is an associate member of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). All students must maintain licensure throughout the program of study.
  • Program availability varies by location.
RN-BSN to MSN Option Admission Requirements:
  • CGPA of 3.0 or greater in RN to BSN coursework (minimum of 25 credit hours of coursework must be taken at Chamberlain)
  • Completion of the following liberal arts and applied sciences courses for the BSN degree:
    • ENGL-135: Advanced Composition
    • MATH-114: Algebra for College Students
    • MATH-221: Statistics for Decision Making
    • ECON-312: Principles of Economics
    • SOCS-350: Cultural Diversity in the Professions
    • Humanities Elective
    • History Elective
  • Completion of the following nursing courses with a grade of B or higher:
    • NR-351: Transitions in Professional Nursing
    • NR-443: RN Community Health Nursing
    • NR-305: Health Assessment
    • NR-361: RN Information Systems in Healthcare
    • NR-449: Evidence-based Practice

Conditional Admission to RN-BSN to MSN Option:
Students admitted to the RN-BSN to MSN option are admitted to the MSN program under conditional status. Students take one graduate level course (NR-504) and must achieve a B or higher to be accepted for full admission to the MSN program. Students who take NR-504 and fail to achieve a B or higher will be dismissed from the MSN program.

Licensure Requirements:
Chamberlain is committed to preparing graduates for professional nursing practice. To achieve this goal, students in the RN to BSN option and the LPN to RN Bridge option must maintain a current, active license to practice nursing in the U.S. or in a jurisdiction that is an associate member of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). All students must maintain licensure throughout the program of study.

Graduate Admission Information

Admission Procedure
Prospective students must complete an application for admission and interview with a Chamberlain admission advisor. When all admission requirements are fulfilled, applicants are notified in writing of their admission status.

Graduate General Admission Requirements
Chamberlain College of Nursing looks for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from a school that is recognized by the United States (U.S.). Department of Education.*
  • A minimum cumulative undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the BSN degree or a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale based on 12 or more semester hours of graduate coursework.
  • Current active RN license from the U.S. or from a jurisdiction that is an associate member of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). All Students must maintain licensure throughout the program of study.
  • Applicants from countries where English is not the primary language spoken, whose native language is not English, or who earned their last degree from an institution where the language of instruction was not English, must demonstrate English-language proficiency.
