Overview

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a post-baccalaureate professional degree designed to prepare nurses for expanding roles in healthcare and enhance opportunities for professional advancement. The MSN curriculum provides core courses in nursing theory, research, leadership, professional role development, and informatics in healthcare. In addition to the completion of the core nursing courses, the student selects one of the three specialty tracks:

  • Executive Specialty Track You can advance your career as a nurse leader. The MSN Executive Specialty Track covers the foundations of organization leadership including managerial communication, organizational change, and decision-making.
  • Educator Specialty Track Inspire the future generation of nurses as a nurse educator. The MSN Educator Specialty Track focuses on educational foundations, instructional methods, program assessment and evaluation, and curriculum development.
  • Informatics Specialty Track Lead the new high-tech wave in patient care as an informatics nurse specialist. The MSN Informatics Specialty Track focuses on management of data and information, and healthcare information workflow and project management.

All MSN students complete a practicum specific to their chosen specialty track, allowing them to apply their newly acquired skills in real-world settings.

MSN graduates will be prepared to work in the field of nursing education or to take a leadership role in a healthcare organization. The graduate will exhibit well-developed skills in inquiry, leadership, and communication and will have a strong foundation for further graduate study.
