2012 in Review: 33 Highlights from the Chamberlain Facebook Page

From the opening of three new campuses, to new partnerships with the NLN and STTI, it was an exciting year for Chamberlain College of Nursing.

But what were the topics that really got our nurses talking? We looked back at our Facebook page from the past year to draw out the top stories, photos and discussions from 2012. Take a look back at our top highlights:


1/1: From finishing their degree to networking with more nurses, followers shared their New Year’s resolutions for the year to come. 

1/12: We could feel the school pride when the U.S. News & World Report ranked Chamberlain in the top five for faculty credentials and training among online graduate programs in nursing! 

1/20: Our Facebook followers sent their best wishes to Tim Tebow-loving WWII nurse Olive Davis on her 100th birthday! The oldest-surviving nurse from the war, Davis recounted boiling needles and filing them down when they had bumps to First Coast News in Jacksonville.

2/3: During the first International Nursing Service Project to the Philippines, our community welcomed the newest member of the Chamberlain family! Two Addison students were able to see a birth by a midwife. The mother wanted an American name and named the baby after them: Erin Kelley. 

2/26: New and returning students shared what they were most looking forward to, in preparation of the first day of the semester at Chamberlain.


3/11: Our nurses couldn’t help but smile when our Columbus students threw a baby shower for patient simulator Noelle! Gifts came in the form of baby food and formula, which were donated to a local food bank.

3/15: Nurses shared their favorite snacks-on-the-go.

3/17: March was graduation season at Chamberlain, and our graduates in Addison were brimming with pride!


4/1: As Facebook moved to the Timeline format, we offered up new cover photos for our followers to show off their Chamberlain pride!

4/26: Chamberlain College student Aileen Russo became an undercover singer no more when she won a contest to sing the National Anthem at Nurses Night at the Ballpark at Wrigley Field. Before auditioning, Aileen had only showcased her singing gift in the shower.

Chamberlain nurse David Baban5/6: On National Nurses Day, our followers honored the nurse who most inspired them in their career.

5/9: Chamberlain College of Nursing was well represented at Nurses Night at the Ballpark at Wrigley Field. Student David Baban threw out the first pitch!

5/23: Nine Chamberlain students visited Brazil for an International Nursing Service Project. They spent two weeks providing care in the city and rural communities of Salvador. Along their journey, they shared photos and stories on our Facebook wall.

5/31: We hit 5,000 followers on Facebook and celebrated with a new cover photo!


6/22: At the Race for the Cure in Washington, D.C., 115 students and staff members from Chamberlain’s Arlington campus raised nearly $2,500 for the race!

6/28: Chamberlain nurses shared their best tips for passing the NCLEX.

7/1: We asked followers to provide their best caption for this photo of one of Chamberlain’s nursing classes in the 1930s. The winning entry was from Facebook follower Becky M.: “OK, how many more decades before they decide we do not really need to wear these hats?”

7/15: From highlighters to coffee, Chamberlain students shared the one thing they couldn’t live without in nursing school.

7/20: Student nurses from the Chicago campus spent a week caring for 59 special needs campers at the Muscular Dystrophy Association Camp!

8/1: Jacksonville campus student Ashley reminded our students why they spend those late nights studying: "Scrubbed in on my first delivery...makes all the hard work absolutely worth it #incredible"

8/10: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel thanked Chamberlain College of Nursing students for their good work!

8/19: Chamberlain students and alumni discussed their favorite instructors at Chamberlain.

9/6: Twenty-three nursing students from the St. Louis, Addison, Chicago and Columbus campuses embarked on a service trip to Kenya, along with students from Ross Medical School. From their first day in the clinic to an unexpected visit to a leper colony, we followed along on their journey as it happened on Facebook. 

9/19: Our Facebook followers were just as excited as we were about the establishment of our second Chamberlain College of Nursing campus in Ohio. Cleveland Rocks!


10/4: Our Facebook followers sounded off on the best job benefits for nurses. 

10/17: Another group of new students joined the Chamberlain family! Incoming Columbus campus student Sarah S. posted: “Nursing school here I come!!! #chamberlain.”

11/12: During the season of giving thanks, we highlighted some of the reasons our Facebook followers were thankful to be nurses. The posts were our most popular ever. 

11/19: RN to BSN online student Bridgette Boulay took the prize in our Project Scrubway photo contest! 

11/28: The heroic actions of two of our Chamberlain nurses during Hurricane Sandy earned praise from our Facebook followers. Chamberlain MSN student Stephen Markley helped carry seven patients down 15 flights of stairs to safety, by the light of a cellphone. The efficient evacuation efforts gained praise from the nation, all the way up to U.S. President Barack Obama.


12/10: A Chamberlain OB clinical group were getting in the holiday spirit at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix!

12/15: Our first nursing infographic detailed all the reasons why to become a nurse.
