DeMasters brings 25+ years of experience in nursing, education, and research to campus
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – September 14, 2010 – Chamberlain College of Nursing has announced the appointment of Dr. Janice DeMasters, Ph.D., MSN, RN as dean of its St. Louis campus. In this role, DeMasters will oversee implementation of the curriculum, delivery of student services, growth and development of clinical partnerships, and management of the day-to-day operations of the St. Louis campus of the College.
DeMasters joins Chamberlain with more than 25 years of experience in nursing, education, and research. Prior to her arrival at Chamberlain, DeMasters most recently served in a consulting capacity for a number of nursing colleges where she provided oversight of various components of nursing education programs including on-line graduate program curricula, budgets, staffing and clinical agreements for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs.
She had previously spent nine years as part of the St. Louis University (SLU) School of Nursing faculty, where she taught courses for degree levels ranging from Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) through Ph.D. Her contributions at SLU also included developing curricula, participating in student recruitment and coordinating preparation for Missouri Board of Nursing site visits. Prior to her career at SLU, DeMasters was a member of the faculty at Deaconess College of Nursing, now Chamberlain College of Nursing.
“Chamberlain is thrilled to welcome Dr. DeMasters back to Chamberlain,” said Susan Groenwald, MSN, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Her extensive experience in nursing education will help Chamberlain continue our mission of providing high-quality nursing education and preparing our students to be proficient and compassionate nursing professionals.”
“It’s a great time to be at Chamberlain College of Nursing and I am excited to be returning to the institution that I taught at years ago,” said DeMasters. “Chamberlain is a respected college with a long, rich tradition of providing quality nursing education. I look forward to working with everyone here at the St. Louis campus to make sure we continue this longstanding tradition of producing superior nurses that are prepared to hit the ground running on day one and for years to come.”
DeMasters earned an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from St. Mary’s College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Maryville University in St. Louis, and both a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) from the University of Missouri.
