Chamberlain College of Nursing Announces Dean of New Arlington Campus – July 21, 2010

ARLINGTON, Va. – July 21, 2010 – As classes begin, Chamberlain College of Nursing has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Patricia Hughes, EdD, MBA, MSN, as dean of its new Arlington campus. In this role, Dr. Hughes will oversee ongoing curriculum development and student services, help grow and develop clinical partnerships, and manage day-to-day operations at the College.

“We’re thrilled to have Dr. Hughes at the helm of our new Arlington campus,” said Susan Groenwald, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Her higher education experience and career as a nursing professional, including experience in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and in healthcare operations management will greatly assist her in managing Chamberlain’s programs and services while advancing our mission to foster personal growth, career mobility, community service and leadership among healthcare professionals."

Dr. Hughes, a Montgomery Village, Md. resident, joins Chamberlain with more than 35 years experience in the healthcare industry. Prior to arriving at Chamberlain, Dr. Hughes served as the vice president for clinical quality at MinuteClinic, the innovative company that pioneered the retail healthcare industry. In this position, she was responsible for driving evidence-based practice throughout the company’s more than 400 nationwide clinics. Dr. Hughes earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)  degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Keller Graduate School of Management, and a doctorate in education (EdD) degree from the University of Georgia.

Before her tenure at MinuteClinic, Dr. Hughes served as a senior director of clinical strategy development in the Strategic Policy and Analysis department at Mid Atlantic Medical Services, LLC (MAMSI)/UnitedHealthcare. She was also the regional asthma program director at Kaiser Permanente, and has worked at hospitals and served as a faculty member at nursing institutions across the country. Dr. Hughes spent eight years with the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.

Chamberlain College of Nursing’s new Arlington campus offers an on-site Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program that can be completed in three years of year-round study instead of the typical four years with summers off, allowing students to enter the workforce and begin earning a salary sooner than their peers at other higher education institutions. For registered nurses, Chamberlain offers a Fast-Track RN to BSN Online Degree Completion Program as well as a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) online degree program for nurses looking to take the next step in their career.
