National League for Nursing Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education To Promote Evidence-Based Nursing Education and the Scholarship of Teaching
Anaheim, Calif.– Sept. 19, 2012 – The inaugural Elite Partner to join the National League for Nursing campaign, Chamberlain College of Nursing is the first named NLN Center for Nursing Education, the League announced today. Chamberlain is committing significant investment funding and resources, over the next seven years, to support the NLN Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education which promotes evidence-based nursing education and the scholarship of teaching. This lead gift for the NLN Home for Transformative Excellence in Washington, DC is a major step towards the League’s $23 million goal.
“In creating the NLN Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education, we begin a partnership that will help the League continue to thrive locally and globally, benefitting the scholarship of nursing education, the students we teach, and the millions of patients they’ll care for throughout their professional lives,” said NLN CEO Dr. Beverly Malone.
During today’s Opening Session of the NLN’s signature conference, the four-day Education Summit, Dr. Malone and NLN president Dr. Judith Halstead recognized Chamberlain President Susan Groenwald and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Richard Cowling for Chamberlain’s dedication to excellence in nursing education. In acknowledging the vision and generosity of Chamberlain’s leadership and faculty, Dr. Halstead described the college as “an institution that is committed to graduating compassionate, ethical, and knowledgeable nurse leaders who are empowered to transform health care.”
“The NLN Chamberlain partnership is an exciting opportunity to promote excellence and innovation in nursing education while advancing our mission of preparing extraordinary nursing graduates to advance the nation’s health,” remarked President Groenwald. “We are proud to partner with the National League for Nursing, the only national nursing organization funding nursing education research and the leader in advancing the science of nursing education.”
In accordance with one of the League’s four key goals – to promote evidence-based nursing education and the scholarship of teaching – the NLN nurtures faculty as scholar-educators; advocates for resources; and implements research initiatives that promote evidence-based teaching and serve to transform nursing education. The new NLN Chamberlain Center will build on this successful tradition, facilitating the expansion of NLN programs such as the Research Priorities Think Tank; Nursing Education Research Grants Program; and annual research conference in partnership with Sigma Theta Tau International.
With the NLN’s historic move in 2013 to new headquarters in the nation’s capital, the League continues to implement its vision for the future. “The NLN Centers for Nursing Education are not centers in the bricks and mortar sense, but rather are a way of organizing our thinking and framing our work, a way to continue to lead in the areas we believe are crucial to the future of nursing and nursing education,” said Dr. Malone. “Purpose, power, and passion give resonance to our identity as the voice for nursing education, as the premier organization for nurse faculty and leaders in nursing education. And through these attributes, we are building the NLN Home for Transformative Excellence.”
