DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. — May 08, 2013 — Building on its commitment to elevating excellence in nursing education and advancing the nursing profession, Chamberlain College of Nursing has aligned with industry leaders on several new initiatives that help transform healthcare, including:

  • Appointment of six members to the Chamberlain College of Nursing Board of Trustees;
  • Formation of the National League for Nursing (NLN) Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education;
  • Establishment of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) and Chamberlain College of Nursing Center for Excellence in Nursing Education;
  • National sponsorship of The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation.

"Each of these new initiatives is a demonstration of Chamberlain Care, the College's commitment to providing the resources and education our students, faculty, healthcare partners and the community at large need to transform healthcare," said Susan Groenwald, president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. "The industry is facing new, complex healthcare challenges and nurses are an integral part of the solution. By providing extraordinary care, Chamberlain prepares the extraordinary nurses who will care for our future and advance healthcare."

Board of Trustees
In January, Chamberlain announced six new members to its board of trustees: Rhonda Anderson, DNSc(h), RN, FAAN, FACHE, chief executive officer (CEO) of Cardon Children’s Medical Center; Connie Curran, EdD, RN, FAAN, CEO of Best on Board; Susan Groenwald, PhD, MSN; William Hughson, president of the Healthcare Group at DeVry Inc.; Nancy Valentine, PhD, RN, FAAN, president of Valentine Group Health; and Chairwoman Joanne Disch, PhD, RN, FAAN, president of the American Academy of Nursing.

With a clear interest in industry progress, this diverse group of new board members is well-positioned to oversee Chamberlain’s policies and programs to ensure that they meet the challenges of today’s healthcare environment – from the latest programs and technology to further enhancing curriculum and educational standards for nursing.

NLN/Chamberlain Center
The inaugural elite partner of the NLN’s campaign to establish seven Centers for Nursing Education, Chamberlain was honored to announce the NLN/Chamberlain Center, which promotes evidence-based nursing education and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Through this partnership, Chamberlain furthers the science of research in nursing education through the study of curriculum, pedagogy, and teaching methods.

STTI/Chamberlain Center
Additionally, Chamberlain joined forces with the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, to form the STTI/Chamberlain Center, which will focus on advancing global excellence in nursing education and preparing the highly capable nursing educators and academic leaders of the future. Successful patient care delivery is dependent upon continuous investment in the faculty who educate nurses. Through their partnership, STTI and Chamberlain will provide career and leadership development resources for nurse educators, so they can prepare extraordinary nurses who will improve healthcare outcomes and continue to propel the industry forward.

DAISY Foundation
Most recently, Chamberlain announced its sponsorship of The DAISY Foundation, a public foundation serving the nursing profession through award recognition, retention programs and grants for nursing research. The DAISY Foundation honors nurses and nursing faculty in more than 1,500 healthcare organizations and schools of nursing in nine countries.

“Nurses have an unprecedented opportunity to support and shape the healthcare system as it evolves. Fulfilling this intention requires quality education, leadership and practice,” said Carole Eldridge, DNP, RN, CNE, NEA-BC, director of graduate programs for Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Chamberlain is dedicated to bolstering its support of industry leading organizations, so current and future nurses have access to these resources that will help them advance their careers. “
