Leveraging Artificial Intelligence in Nursing With Chamberlain’s AI-Focused MSN Specialization

A notification appears in a patient’s electronic health record: Vital signs and clinical data suggest a risk of sepsis. An AI-powered system has spotted the pattern early. A nurse reviews the alert and initiates appropriate next steps.1 In moments like this, AI provides an early warning, but it’s nursing expertise and leadership that help inform timely escalation and coordinated care.

AI tools are already embedded in many parts of nursing practice—from early warning alerts to clinical decision support and documentation assistance. Nurses are often the first to see this information and act on it during patient care. Knowing how to read and interpret data, combine it with clinical judgment, and communicate clearly with the care team are essential nursing skills, especially for those in leadership.

That’s why Chamberlain University created Advanced Nursing Leadership With Artificial Intelligence (AI), a new specialization within the Accelerated MSN and Accelerated RN-MSN options. The online AI nursing specialization  is designed for nurses who want practical insight into how AI is being used in healthcare, and the opportunity to build the skills needed to guide teams and make informed decisions.

Chamberlain also now offers an Advanced Nursing Leadership specialization within the Accelerated MSN and Accelerated RN-MSN options. This timely addition focuses on decision-making, collaboration, care coordination, and process improvement.

Inside Advanced Nursing Leadership With AI
This specialization focuses on the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in healthcare environments and complex systems. As a student in Advanced Nursing Leadership With Artificial Intelligence (AI), you’ll explore how emerging technologies are reshaping nursing roles and leadership opportunities, helping you to prepare for the future of nursing practice.

Your courses will include:

•    Advanced Nursing Leadership in AI-Integrated Healthcare Environments
This course builds advanced nursing leadership skills for delivering safe, person-centered care in healthcare settings that use AI. You’ll strengthen decision-making, teamwork, and care coordination skills while learning how to apply ethical, evidence-based practices in clinical nursing situations.
•    Advanced Nursing Leadership in AI-Integrated Complex Systems
This course explores the role of advanced nursing leaders as advocates in healthcare environments that use AI. You’ll examine the factors—both within and outside an organization—that affect nursing care and learn how to develop evidence-based strategies that support quality, reduce risk, and improve patient outcomes.

Your MSN Learning Experience
While earning your Chamberlain Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) online degree, you’ll engage in an interactive learning experience that blends theory, technology, and practical application to help prepare you for leadership. Here’s what learning looks like in this program:

•    Active Learning: You’ll learn through a mix of lectures, interactive activities, case studies, and simulations that reflect real situations nurses face in practice.
•    Technology-Enhanced Learning: You’ll use digital tools, electronic health records, and informatics systems throughout the program, so you gain hands-on experience with the technology healthcare organizations are using today.

Of the 144 required practicum hours, 48 hours focus specifically on working with AI technology under the guidance of a mentor who has AI experience or uses AI in their role.
•    Collaborative Learning: You’ll work with others through team-based assignments and interprofessional learning, helping you build the collaboration skills needed for healthcare leadership.
