To kick off 2013, the Student Nurses Association (SNA) held a two day blood drive with Adventist Hinsdale Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 15, and Wednesday, Jan. 16. This event was extremely successful, with 65 donors participating and resulting in a total of 50 units of blood! SNA would like to thank all the donors who came out, and also the SNA members who volunteered to help run the event. Future blood drives are in the works, so please keep a lookout for more donation opportunities!
The end of January brought about the SNA members’ meeting. This was the largest gathering of SNA members to date, with about 30 members coming out to hear about our many events. One event, Science Night, was cancelled and replaced with a volunteering opportunity at Marklund on Monday, Jan. 28. On that day, volunteers played board games and did arts and crafts with the children of Marklund.
On Tuesday, Jan. 29, and Wednesday, Jan. 30, SNA members went to Lutheran Home to help with competency tests for certified nursing assistants (CNAs). Members either evaluated or acted as “residents” so the CNAs could practice their skills.
Future events include the Fight for Air Climb, in which participants climb 31 flights of stairs in honor of those fighting lung cancer. SNA members will volunteer to help run the event, hand out water and cheer on climbers. More events to look forward to are blanket making for Hesed House, the SNA bulletin board, Senior Day SNA cord pick-up, the senior party and pinning/graduation ceremonies. Another upcoming event is a bowling event to benefit Marklund. Multiple Chamberlain student organizations including SNA will be taking donations for Marklund and providing students with a fun night of bowling and pizza.
With the February graduation, SNA has said goodbye to its vice president, Marvina Pazolli, who has been a dedicated, hard-working leader for the organization. The vice president position is open to members and current executive board members. An announcement on a new VP will be made soon.
As always, please email email@example.com with any questions, concerns or inquiries about joining SNA. Also, “Like” our Facebook page at Student Nurses Association Addison for photos of all our events and meeting reminders.
