LCMC Health's Called-to-Care Scholars Program FAQs

What is the LCMC Health Called-to-Care Scholars Program?

LCMC Health’s Called-to-Care Scholars Program awards up to three years of paid tuition and other eligible fees to eligible new students for Chamberlain’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree Program at Chamberlain University College of Nursing Jefferson Parish course location at 4224 Houma Boulevard, Suite 600, Metairie, LA 70006.

Additionally, these scholars will commit to an up to three-year employment pledge (3) to LCMC Health upon graduating and passing the NCLEX-RN® to provide care for underserved communities in the New Orleans metropolitan area. Through the alliance, LCMC Health is offering educational funding for new Chamberlain students in the form of forgivable tuition assistance. This opportunity is open to all eligible applicants across the United States, who will be required to relocate to Louisiana prior to their first required onsite experience, which is dependent upon their individual curriculum plan, if they currently live out of state.

What does three-years paid tuition include for LCMC Health’s Called-to-Care Scholars Program?

LCMC Health's Called-to-Care Scholars Program will cover all tuition, which is inclusive of the tuition, fees and charges related to the BSN Degree Program (per credit hour costs, student services charge, course resource fee, and student injury and sickness insurance plan) in accordance with the terms set forth in Chamberlain’s academic catalog, enrollment agreement and student handbook.

Tuition shall not include costs associated with room and board; books and supplies; health screening and immunizations; clinical-related background check, drug screening and/or fingerprint scan; other clinical fees; fees other than those listed above; and transportation. The application fee and fee for initial background check, drug screening and/or fingerprint scan will either be waived for enrolled students or refunded once they are selected for the LCMC Health scholars program.

Up to 100% of the tuition payments (including accrued interest) can be forgiven if the work commitment (as outlined in the Program Description and Recipient Agreement) is completed.

Are continuing students eligible for the Called-to-Care Scholars Program?

No. At this time, continuing students are not eligible for LCMC Health’s Called-to-Care Scholars Program. The scholars program is open to eligible new students and Chamberlain students that have sat out of classes for six or more consecutive sessions (readmit students) from across the country. While the scholars program is only available to new and readmit students, Chamberlain encourages existing students to look at other financial aid options that may be available to you here.

What if I do not pass the NCLEX-RN®?

The condition of LCMC Health’s Called-to-Care Scholars Program is that recipients will work full time in an eligible paid position at an LCMC Health facility for up to three years. If a student cannot fulfill their work commitment as outlined in LCMC Health’s Program Description and Recipient Agreement, the financial obligation will become the student’s responsibility to repay LCMC Health. The student will have one year to repay their financial obligation at a lower interest rate. If the debt is not paid within the first year, the interest rate will increase and LCMC Health will pursue collection efforts.
Students will be given a Disclosure Statement that outlines their financial and work commitment to LCMC Health each session.

Please review LCMC Health’s Program Description and Recipient Agreement for full details on repayment and default.

Where will this opportunity be available?

Students accepted into LCMC Health’s Called-to-Care Scholars Program will be in the New Orleans metropolitan area at Chamberlain University College of Nursing Jefferson Parish course location at 4224 Houma Boulevard, Suite 600, Metairie, LA 70006

If I live out of state, do I need to relocate to Louisiana for the scholars program?

Yes. If the student lives out of state, he or she will need to relocate to Louisiana in time to begin their first onsite course — the timing of which is dependent upon their individual curriculum plan. Admission representatives can help determine when the student will need to relocate.

Why have Chamberlain University and LCMC Health formed an alliance?

With nursing shortages in Louisiana and the New Orleans metropolitan area at a time when the need for nurses has never been greater, LCMC Health was seeking to make education and healthcare more accessible with their Called-to-Care Scholars Program.

  • LCMC Health is a health system on a mission: to provide extra-ordinary care for every person in New Orleans and to bring a little more heart and soul to healthcare along the way.
  • As the nation’s largest nursing school, Chamberlain University believes that if we take extraordinary care of our students, we will graduate diverse healthcare professionals who have a significant impact in our communities and around the world while advancing health equity for all.
  • With our shared vision, it was a great match for LCMC Health to offer the Called-to-Care Scholars Program at Chamberlain, which will help build a future nursing pipeline and support the New Orleans community.
