
Mary Beth Kinston, PhD, RN, FAAN
Mary Beth Kingston serves as chair of the Chamberlain University Board of Trustees. She has served as a system Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in multiple organizations, most recently at Advocate Health Care following the combination of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health. Prior to this role, she was the CNO of Advocate Aurora Health, Aurora Health Care, and Einstein Healthcare Network. Kingston is currently a member of the Board of Governors of Main Line Health in Radnor, PA and Board of Directors of Providence St. Joseph Health in Renton, WA. She is a former president of the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) and was a member of the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees, where she chaired the Hospitals Against Violence advisory group. In her nurse executive roles, Kingston has been a champion for creating healthy and safe workplaces: she co-chaired the Workforce Safety Subcommittee of the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety convened by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and is a member of Kontakt.io’s advisory board helping to drive healthcare workforce safety strategy.
Kingston was a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow from 2009–2012 and a 2007 recipient of the Pennsylvania Nightingale Award for Nursing Administration. In 2024, she was awarded both the AONL’s and the Daisy Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Awards. Named one of Modern Healthcare's 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives in 2021, 2023, and 2024, she became a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2020. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at West Chester University, a master’s degree in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, and a doctorate in health policy at the University of Sciences in Philadelphia.
