The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program incorporates general education and nursing courses into a program that provides the education and skills necessary for a lifetime of personal and professional growth. The BSN degree consists of a minimum of 129 credit hours: 69 credit hours in general education and 60 credit hours in the nursing major.
The first year of the program emphasizes general education and prepares the student for the nursing major, with the majority of nursing coursework occurring in the second and third years. Significant clinical practice hours are planned throughout the program to promote proficiency in the skills necessary for competent nursing practice. Students’ clinical experiences occur in acute- and long-term care facilities, as well as in community settings that reflect the changing healthcare environment. The emphasis on clinical experience, supported by theory from nursing and related disciplines, is the hallmark of the BSN curriculum at Chamberlain.
The Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program provides a comprehensive foundation of general and nursing education necessary for nursing practice and continuing education. It also provides the necessary skills and competencies for graduates to assume Registered Nurse practice positions with acute, rehabilitative, and long-term care agencies. Graduates of the associate degree program are eligible to apply to take the NCLEX-RN®. The associate degree consists of six full-time semesters and a minimum of 72 credit hours: 35 credit hours in general education and 37 credit hours in the nursing major.
The Associate Degree in Nursing program is a six-semester, year-round program. The first year is designed for students with no prior nursing education and includes the fundamentals of nursing, beginning patient-care experiences, and general education courses. The second year includes additional general education courses and courses pertaining to nursing care with specialized populations. (Program available in Columbus, OH only.)
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who wish to pursue an associate degree completion have the option of receiving advanced standing through the College’s articulation program. The LPN to RN Bridge Option is available both online and on-site at the Chamberlain Columbus campus. (Program available in Columbus, OH only.)
At Chamberlain College of Nursing, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of our students – and in the world. That’s why Chamberlain’s focus on student success extends well beyond the classroom and clinical environments, providing nursing students with opportunities to expand their educational horizons through a full spectrum of social, cause-related, and field experiences both locally and globally.
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® | International Nursing Service Projects
Chamberlain College of Nursing joins together to support one of the greatest causes of all – the race to cure breast cancer. At Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure events, Chamberlain students, faculty, and staff come together to join the fight to end breast cancer and save lives. Because with every step, we are that much closer to curing breast cancer forever.
Chamberlain students have ventured far beyond the classroom and local communities to participate in International Nursing Service Projects in Kenya, Bolivia, and Brazil. This first-hand immersion experience allows students to gain a deeper understanding of cultural and economic differences. The two- to three-week International Nursing Service Projects can be done in place of the school’s required multiculturalism and community health courses.
The Chamberlain Columbus Student Nurses' Association (SNA) mentors the professional development of future registered nurses and provides educational resources, leadership opportunities and career guidance.
During Nurses Appreciation Week (May 6-12), Chamberlain celebrates nursing and unites its students, faculty, and staff. Chamberlain honors nurses and raises awareness for healthcare causes, the national need for nurses, and the need to improve the quality of healthcare.
Chamberlain College of Nursing Honor Society celebrates the scholarship, research and academic excellence of baccalaureate and graduate nursing students and the achievements of professional nurses. Our mission is to support learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference worldwide.
Our commitment to student success is exemplified at the Center for Academic Success (CAS). CAS provides students with an opportunity to enlist the services of peer and professional tutors for assistance with course content in both general education and nursing courses. Tutors can provide resources for academic support, advice on how to study, and insight into particular classes and instructors. The Center also holds study sessions when requested for nursing and gen ed topics, such as chemistry/microbiology, critical care nursing, and pharmacology, and algebra.
