At Chamberlain Columbus, you gain hands-on experience in our SIMCARE CENTER™ and at our on-site clinical setting. You will work with classmates, faculty, mentors, and seasoned registered nurses as you learn skills in direct patient-care nursing. The SIMCARE CENTER™ features various aspects of simulated care, giving you the chance to practice fundamental nursing skills on high-tech patient manikins. Patient simulators have bodily functions and vital signs, and they show a multitude of symptoms. You can practice your nursing skills in a safe health care setting before moving on to real-life patients in the clinicals portion of the Chamberlain curriculum

Will I get hands-on experience?

 

Chamberlain University College of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) curriculum is intended to develop your ability to learn and utilize fundamental knowledge of nursing. The emphasis is on conceptual learning, while also giving you the skills to transform theory into practice.

Hands-on participation in both the Chamberlain SIMCARE CENTER™ and on-site clinical locations allows you to operate side-by-side with faculty, mentors, peers, and experienced professional nurses as you improve your patient-care nursing skills.

Our nursing program in Columbus, Ohio consists of a minimum of 122 credit hours: 56 credit hours in general education and 66 credit hours in the nursing major. For Ohio students who were enrolled prior to May 2016, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program consists of 129 credit hours, with 60 credit hours in general education and 69 credit hours in nursing.

Online general education and nursing courses may be offered within the BSN curriculum plan. In order to assist in successful completion of online coursework, an online readiness assessment is an integral part of the admission process. Based upon the outcome of the online readiness assessment, skill building activities may be required.

Already Have a Bachelor’s Degree?

If you have already earned a bachelor’s degree, or simply have some college credits, we will help you find the best way to transfer relevant credits and get a head start on your BSN degree at Chamberlain Columbus. LPNs & LVNs

Your experience as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or licensed vocational nurse (LVN) can help speed you on your way to a BSN degree. 

  • A licensed LPN or LVN may earn the 3-year BSN degree at Columbus with up to nine proficiency credits—and after passing skills validation tests and proficiency exams.
High School Graduates

You can enter Chamberlain Columbus directly from high school graduation—or after the General Educational Development (GED®) test . Requirements include:

  • Proof of high school graduation with a 2.75 grade point average or higher
  • Or a GED® test score of 551 if taken between 2002-2013, or a minimum score of 600 if taken in 2014 or after
  • If you take the Health Education Systems Incorporated (HESI) Admission Assessment (A2) Exam, you will need a minimum score of 73

Real-world experience gives you a better understanding of individual cultures and their unique economic and social challenges. Students spend two weeks in their location of choice—and a variety of locations are available. Community and multiculturalism health courses are completed by participating in the program.

What is the admission criteria?

Prospective nursing students begin the admission process by first completing an application and then interviewing with a Chamberlain admission representative. When all admission criteria are fulfilled, prospective students are told in writing of their admission status to a specific Chamberlain program and location.
