Annie Ryan, MSN, RN, BMTCN
Annie’s journey with Chamberlain University began as a BSN student on the Addison Campus, where she was proud to be part of the third Chamberlain graduating class in the state of Illinois under Dr. Jan Snow. Like many Chamberlain students, nursing was a second career for Annie. Her first degree was from Illinois State University in Education, and she had the pleasure of teaching high-school history for freshman and AP classes for seniors. As much as she loved teaching, she always felt a calling to nursing and decided to make it a reality. Following graduation from Chamberlain University with her BSN, she spent her entire clinical career at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Hematology/Oncology Stem Cell Transplant. Here, she earned her Bone and Marrow Transplant Certification (BMTCN) and dedicated herself to continuous improvement of patient safety and outcomes for oncology patients.
Hoping to combine her passion for both nursing and education, Annie returned to Chamberlain in 2014 by joining the Chicago Campus team as a Professional Nurse Tutor in the Center for Academic Success (CAS). She was promoted to the Assistant Dean of Academic Success over the department in February 2018. As the leader of the CAS, Annie demonstrated an exceptional ability to build a rapport with the student body while becoming laser focused on NCLEX support strategies, graduate outreach, and mentorship of new nurses. After receiving her MSN from Chamberlain, Annie transitioned to the role of Associate Dean of Faculty (ADOF) in 2018. During her time as ADOF, Annie has led and supported the Chicago campus faculty team, provided clinical instruction in Collaborative and Capstone, taught Health Assessment labs, and acted as course and clinical coordinator for NR224 and NR226, Nursing Fundamentals. Notably, during her tenure with Chamberlain University, Annie has been recognized with a number of awards. Notable recognitions include Daisy Award (2018), Illinois Nurses Foundation 40 Under 40 Emerging Nurse Leader Award (2018) and Power of Nursing Leadership Pinnacle Nurse Leader Award (2019). In June 2020, Annie had the honor and distinction of being promoted to the Dean of Academic Affairs (DAA) for all Illinois Campuses (Addison, Chicago, Tinley) and is currently enrolled in the Doctorate program with Chamberlain University. At this time, Annie is serving the Chicago Campus as the Interim Campus President and is thrilled and honored to work with the amazing Chicago team and Chicago student’s every day. Annie’s passion for service and community collaboration extends even into her personal professional responsibilities which includes her roles as the co-founder, Executive Board Member, and Director of Patient Advocacy for Never Had a Bad Day Foundation, a 501c3 that helps to support the families of pediatric oncology patients experiencing financial toxicities.
