Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice degree programs recognized for quality and integrity

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – February 10, 2015 – Chamberlain College of Nursing has received reaffirmation of accreditation of its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program for 10 years—the maximum amount of time granted for reaccreditation of an existing program—through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). It has also received initial accreditation from CCNE for its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program for five years, the maximum amount of time granted for initial accreditation of a new program.

“Chamberlain is committed to the continuous pursuit of academic excellence in nursing education by providing students with the resources and educational support they need to prepare them to fulfill their roles as extraordinary nurses,” said Dr. Richard Cowling, vice president of academic affairs at Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Reaffirmation of CCNE accreditation for our BSN degree program, along with initial accreditation of our DNP program, exemplifies the quality of our programs. Not all nursing schools in the United States have programs that are CCNE accredited, and we are proud of this mark of high academic standards and commitment to excellent academic outcomes.”

Chamberlain’s BSN degree program prepares each graduate for the practice of professional nursing through integration of theoretical knowledge, psychomotor skill acquisition, and development of clinical judgment and reasoning. The curriculum provides a broad foundation in the theory and practice of nursing, including moral, ethical and legal principles that are essential in developing proficient and caring graduates prepared for clinical practice.

Chamberlain’s post-master’s DNP degree program is designed for registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice RNs who are ready to take their profession to the next level and act as champions for a more effective healthcare system. Its two specialty tracks, Advanced Practice Leadership, and Healthcare Systems Leadership, prepare students to translate new knowledge into practice; improve patient outcomes; identify and implement advanced systems efficiencies; and take on senior leadership roles in a wide variety of healthcare settings.

CCNE is a national, autonomous accrediting agency that ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate and residency programs in nursing. As part of their review, CCNE evaluators look at a program’s mission, goals and expected outcomes, and assess its performance in achieving them in the most effective way.
