Chamberlain College of Nursing to Open Addison Campus in March

ADDISON, Ill. —January 24, 2008 — Signaling further progress toward its national expansion goal, St. Louis-based Chamberlain College of Nursing announced today that it will establish a new campus in Addison and will begin offering classes in March.

About Chamberlain College of Nursing’s New Addison Campus

Chamberlain College of Nursing will offer a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree program at its new Addison campus, which will be co-located with DeVry University at 1221 W. Swift Road. The program can be completed in three years instead of the traditional four, and the new Chamberlain facilities will feature 6,000 square feet of state-of-the-art nursing skills laboratories.

The College is currently accepting applications for its first class session, which will begin March 3. Open houses for prospective students will be held Tuesday, January 29 from 4-8 p.m., Saturday, February 2 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and Thursday, February 7 from 4-8 p.m.

Chamberlain also offers an online RN-to-BSN fast-track degree completion program that allows registered nurses to support their professional growth by earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing in as few as three semesters. This flexible program enables students nationwide to complete their coursework online.

Chamberlain College of Nursing, formerly Deaconess College of Nursing, was established in St. Louis, Mo. in 1889. Chamberlain opened its first campus outside of St. Louis in early 2007 in Columbus, Ohio. In December 2007, the College received approval to open a new campus in Phoenix, Arizona. The Addison campus marks the third state into which Chamberlain has expanded, and the school continues to explore opportunities to expand its footprint nationwide.

About the National and Illinois Nursing Shortage
The National Center for Health Workforce Analysis of the Health Resources Services Administration predicts that the U.S. will have almost 1 million fewer registered nurses than it needs by the year 2020. According to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the shortage in Illinois is predicted to reach more than 21,000 nurses by 2020. Yet, our state’s capacity to educate and train new nurses is not keeping up with this growing need. In 2006, more than 1,100 qualified applicants were denied entrance to Illinois nursing schools due to a lack of capacity.

“Illinois needs increased access to high-quality nursing education,” said Groenwald. “Chamberlain’s new campus in Addison will allow us to help communities throughout the metropolitan Chicago area and the State of Illinois respond to the critical and growing shortage of nurses that will intensify as Baby Boomers age and the need for healthcare grows.”
