ADDISON, Ill. – September 3, 2009 – Chamberlain College of Nursing has announced the appointment of Stephanie Stewart, Ph.D., MSN, as vice president of academic affairs. In this role, Dr. Stewart will oversee strategic direction, academic integrity and standardized implementation of all curricula for Chamberlain College of Nursing's nationwide campuses and online programs with the goal of maintaining the highest level of student achievement.
Dr. Stewart brings to Chamberlain a wealth of practical and academic knowledge with more than 35 years of experience in the health care industry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and her master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in perinatal and community health. Dr. Stewart also has a doctorate in educational psychology from Marquette University.
Since 1990, Dr. Stewart has held a variety of positions at UW Oshkosh. In her most recent role as director of the Center for Nursing Innovation, Dr. Stewart was responsible for all technology related to the college, as well as producing new programs for nursing education and practice. Previously, as the undergraduate program director, she was responsible for the administration of a collaborative online RN to BSN degree completion program; a pilot accelerated online BSN program; and all traditional undergraduate programs. In these roles, she developed a variety of creative programs to enhance nurses’ skills, including developing a Second Life virtual campus online.

Dr. Stewart’s new role at Chamberlain will also include the development of research and assessment programs. During her time at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Stewart developed and worked on numerous research projects, producing both academic and mainstream articles based on her findings. Her work has included studies on post-partum depression among Hmong women in Southeast Asia, Native American nursing education, as well as program satisfaction and changing values related to accelerated nursing programs. She has recently presented nationally and internationally and published on using virtual worlds in online nursing education.

The bachelor’s degree program in nursing at the Addison, Columbus, Phoenix and St. Louis campuses is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Accreditation provides assurance to the public and to prospective students that standards of quality have been met. Program availability varies by location.
