Chamberlain College of Nursing Expands with First Campus in California
Sacramento campus aims to meet the state’s growing demand for baccalaureate-prepared nurses

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. – April 5, 2016 – Filling a critical and growing need for nursing education in the region, Chamberlain College of Nursing is opening a new campus in Sacramento, California, and is now accepting applications for admission to spring-semester classes, which begin May 2. The Sacramento campus is Chamberlain’s first in California and its 20th in the nation.

Sacramento has seen substantial growth, expanding nearly twice as fast as the rest of the state from 2002–2012. The growing population means a greater need for comprehensive healthcare services in this area, including more nurses to care for the increasing number of patients.[1] According to a 2013 survey of nurse employers in California, of the hospitals that planned to increase their proportion of nurses prepared with bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degrees, nearly half reported plans to increase the number by at least 76 percent.[2]

With waiting lists for nursing schools in northern California extending as long as six years[3], Chamberlain’s new Sacramento campus will help make nursing education more accessible to students living in Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, Solano, San Joaquin, Sutter, Amador, Contra Costa, Calaveras and Nevada counties. Located at 10971 Sun Center Drive in Rancho Cordova, California, the campus offers an on-site Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program that can be completed in as few as three years of year-round study instead of the typical four years with summers off.

The Sacramento campus features Chamberlain’s SIMCARE CENTER™, which provides high-tech simulated patient care in clinical learning environments, and a Center for Academic Success, which delivers comprehensive academic resources and support for students. Chamberlain students benefit from Chamberlain Care™, Chamberlain’s unique academic success model in which faculty and colleagues provide robust academic support, resources, and student care to help students achieve their career goals and deliver extraordinary patient care.

“Chamberlain Care puts the extraordinary care of our students at the forefront of all we do,” said Susan Groenwald, Ph.D., RN, ANEF, FAAN, national president of Chamberlain College of Nursing. “Faculty and staff provide students with individualized support from the beginning of their academic careers through graduation, preparing each student with the strong foundation needed to succeed and to lead positive change in today’s healthcare environment.”

Open houses for prospective students will be held at the Sacramento campus on Thursday, April 14 from 4–7 p.m. and Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. For more information about Chamberlain College of Nursing’s Sacramento campus, visit chamberlain.edu/sacramento.
