Chamberlain Partners with DAISY Foundation to Offer Scholarships to Nurses

A recently-diagnosed cancer patient at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, Ariz., mentioned to his nurse that he was feeling out of sorts without the daily planner he typically relied upon. 

Hearing this, nurse Jennifer Martin, a 2012 graduate of Chamberlain’s Phoenix campus, ran to the hospital gift shop during her break. Unable to find a suitable planner, she went shopping after work. The next day, she brought the patient the calendar, sat with him and helped him fill in important dates and information.

According to those at her hospital, this kind of extraordinary, compassionate care is the norm for Martin. Another patient wrote of her: “[Martin] went overboard by sitting next to me, held my hand, and listened attentively to my fears. I felt as if I was the only patient she had to care for. She put me and my husband at ease. My husband and I could see she was called to be a nurse because of the warmth with which she delivered the care.”

Martin was recently recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, a recognition that honors the super-human work nurses do for patients and families every day. Through Chamberlain’s new sponsorship of the DAISY Foundation, Martin is also now among the 35,000 DAISY nurses eligible for a special scholarship at Chamberlain College of Nursing.

Through the sponsorship, all DAISY Award recipients who meet Chamberlain’s admission requirements are eligible to receive an education partner tuition rate for the RN to BSN option, RN-BSN to MSN option, MSN degree program, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program, and graduate certificates programs. The scholarship program is active with the start of Chamberlain’s next session beginning July 8, 2013.
