What to Expect When You Enroll in Chamberlain's Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.™ Program
You know you want to become a nurse. But do you know what your area of practice will be? Chamberlain University’s Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.TM Nurse Education Model gives third-year, pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing students 16 weeks of training and eight weeks of clinical experience working in one of two nursing specialties: home healthcare nursing or perioperative nursing.
Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.TM is available to qualified Chamberlain 3-year BSN program students at no additional cost. You’ll acquire practical experience and knowledge you can put to use in your nursing career. And you just might discover a specialty you love! Find out what else to expect when you enroll in Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.TM
Home Healthcare Nursing
Home health nurses not only understand the needs of their patients, but the families and environments as well. As a result, home healthcare nurses often develop close and meaningful relationships with the families they serve. Because you’ll often work independently, you can really impact the lives of your patients in a positive way. And, if autonomy is important to you, this could be the area of practice for you. Home healthcare nursing can also offer flexibility, giving you control over your schedule.
In the Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.TM program, you’ll take two 8-week Introduction to Continuing Health (ICH) modules, where you’ll learn about the responsibilities of home healthcare nurses, steps to prevent infections, how to manage safety concerns, and more. You’ll also complete an eight-week practicum in the home healthcare setting, which gives you 96 clinical hours. Then you’ll earn a badge to acknowledge your newly gained nursing skills, which you can add to your resume or your LinkedIn or Glassdoor profile.
Chamberlain offers the home healthcare nurse Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.TM program in conjunction with BrightStar Care®, a top in-home care and medical staffing company with more than 360 locations nationwide.
Perioperative Nursing
In perioperative nursing, you’ll work as a team with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other healthcare professionals. Nurses in this field, which has a direct impact on patient outcomes, are in high demand. If you want a stable career path as a valuable member of a surgical team, perioperative nursing might be your calling.
In the Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.TM program, you’ll take two 8-week Introduction to Perioperative Nursing (IPN) modules. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of perioperative nurses, methods and practices in anesthesia, how to lower pre- and post-surgery risks, and more. You’ll also complete an eight-week practicum in the perioperative setting, which provides 96 clinical hours.
Upon completion of the program, you’ll earn a badge to acknowledge your specialized knowledge and nursing skills, which you can add to your LinkedIn or Glassdoor profile and your resume. You’ll also receive a free one-year student membership to the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), Chamberlain’s partner for the Practice Ready. Specialty Focused.TM perioperative nursing program. AORN is a worldwide association with more than 40,000 registered nurses who are actively engaged in teaching, research, education, practice and management in the perioperative nursing field.
