What is the HPSP?
The Health Professional Scholarship Program (HPSP) from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides financial assistance to students receiving education or training in a direct or indirect healthcare services discipline. Upon completing the educational program and obtaining licensure/certification, participants are required to work for a period as permanent, full-time VA employees in the occupations for which the scholarship was awarded.
What does the HPSP cover?
- Full tuition
- All required fees, books and school supplies
- A monthly living stipend of $1,200

Who qualifies?
- Currently enrolled and accepted full-time Chamberlain University students in the following degree programs: BSN, MSN (includes all specialty tracks), MSW and MPAS
- The VA does not require veteran status for BSN, MSN (all specialty tracks) or MSW students to apply for the HPSP. MPAS students must have veteran status to apply.
- Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 with 15 earned credit hours
- Must be a citizen of the United States
What if I’m not a veteran? Am I still eligible?
Yes, for most programs, you are eligible for the HPSP. The VA does not require veteran status for BSN, MSN (all specialty tracks) or MSW students.
If you’re in the MPAS program, you will need to have veteran status to apply for the HPSP.
How to Apply
Apply to Chamberlain University and, upon acceptance, apply for the HPSP scholarship through the Department of Veterans Affairs.The Veterans Affairs application process requires the student applicant to complete an online application which includes the submission of these requirements:
- Application (Completed by student applicant)
- Academic Verification (Completed by Dean of Program or equivalent)
- Evaluations and Recommendations:
- Required: Academic Faculty
- Required: Either an Employer/Manager or Other
- (VA Employee) Required: Supervisor
- Resume
- Transcript
- DD214 (current and former service members)
- SF50 (current and former VA employees)
The process can take between 60 to 120 days (after being accepted for the scholarship) for funds to be sent to the institution it could pose a delay for students to need to cover costs owed to the institution while they wait and HPSP is not retroactive.
