LaTricia Perry, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE
Dr. LaTricia Perry is the president of Chamberlain University’s Las Vegas campus. She brings more than 26 years of academic, administrative, and clinical nursing experience to the role. Prior to joining Chamberlain, Dr. Perry held a variety of academic nursing roles including administrative and academic positions within the school of nursing at Nevada State College. She most recently served as associate dean; a position she held for the past five years. Her academic nursing career began in 2010 as a part-time instructor with Nevada State with a transition to a full-time lecturer role in the fall of 2012. In 2016, she transitioned to an administrative role as the BSN director while continuing to teach in both the pre- and post-licensure tracks.
Dr. Perry’s nursing journey began in San Mateo, California at a skilled nursing facility. Her clinical trajectory included a transition to a sub-acute hospital setting which led to an opportunity for a robust preceptorship experience in Labor and Delivery. While working in Labor and Delivery, Dr. Perry realized her passion for curriculum design recognizing that knowledge is power especially for the laboring woman and her partner. She created a childbirth education program specific to the patient population at the hospital where she was working. After full approval by the medical director, Dr. Perry was afforded the opportunity to roll-out her curriculum at that hospital. After a move to Las Vegas, Dr. Perry spent a number of years as a school nurse in the Clark County School District; yet another nursing role that yielded a unique skillset.
With great intention, Dr. Perry has sought opportunities to engage with colleagues in interdisciplinary ways. She pursued a doctorate in gerontology with a passion to identify ways to enhance the subjective aging experience for older adults, especially as their lives intersect with the healthcare system. She was awarded a Nevada Institute on Educator Preparation, Retention, and Research grant sub-award to explore the perception of age-friendliness within a school of education to identify potential recruitment, development and retention initiatives that could enhance the teacher pipeline in Southern Nevada. Additionally, she has authored a textbook chapter on gerontological principles to inform the practices of future nurse practitioners.
Among her awards and recognitions, Dr. Perry was a VEGAS INC Women to Watch 2019 Nominee; a Nevada State College “Be Bold” award recipient for her role on the RN to BSN Implementation Team; a National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) 2018 Women of Distinction Award Finalist in the category of Healthcare/Medical; a Nevada Nurses Foundation 2017 “50 Under 50” Award recipient; a 2015 National League for Nursing – Hearst Foundation Excellence in Geriatric Education Award Recipient; and a Nevada State Higher Education (NSHE) Woman of Excellence Award Recipient in 2015.
Dr. Perry earned a Bachelor of Science in Life Science from Kansas State University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Clarkson College, a Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Phoenix, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Gerontology and Leadership from Concordia University.
