Chamberlain University faculty members Randy Gordon, DNP, FNP-BC and Dee McGonigle, PhD, RN, CNE, FAAN, ANEF are the editors of a new textbook, “Virtual Simulation in Nursing Education,” which is scheduled to release with Springer Publishing Company in spring 2018.
“Throughout this textbook, faculty, researchers, and administrators from academic institutions around the world share expertise and exemplars of innovative virtual simulation integration with undergraduate and graduate curricula to showcase and inspire you on how to leverage resources and reform nursing education,” said Gordon, who teaches in Chamberlain’s Master of Science in Nursing program. “This book is dedicated to students, teachers, and administrators who are pioneers and willing to blaze the trail.”
The text is based upon a conceptual model that Gordon and McGonigle created called the Faculty Administrators Student Technology Strategic Integration Model (FAST SIM©), which provides a framework to guide the process of integrating technology with nursing curriculum.
According to the FAST SIM model, to achieve successful integration of technology with a nursing curriculum, equal appreciation and recognition must be given to faculty, administrators and students as significant contributors to the technology integration process.
“I hope that this text encourages new faculty to explore virtual simulation solutions while providing support, validation and thought-provoking ideas for those who have already jumped in,” McGonigle said.
In addition to Gordon and McGonigle, 27 contributing authors added their expertise and provided an international perspective, several of whom are from Chamberlain University and Adtalem Global Education.
