Chamberlain MSN Student Named Hospital Nursing Director
Chamberlain MSN student Jodi Rucker, RN, BSN, has been named director of the medical/surgical and intensive care units at Memorial Hospital in Sandusky County, Ohio. In her new role, Rucker will also lead ambulatory care and enterostomal therapy at the hospital.
“Jodi’s love of nursing and professional leadership experience make her a great fit at Memorial Hospital,” said Jill Trosin, Memorial’s chief nursing officer.
Rucker graduated from Chamberlain’s RN-BSN online option in June 2011 with presidential honors. She is now five weeks from graduation in Chamberlain’s MSN Executive specialty track, which promotes the skills and knowledge essential to nurse leaders.
“I don’t know how I could do my job without the education I received,” Rucker said. “[Chamberlain] has taught me more about the framework of nursing and executive role, and let me start building on that in my own career. The discipline I learned through school has also helped me get to where I am.”
With five children and a husband who is also attending school, Rucker understands the challenges of balancing school with work and family. Despite her demanding schedule, Rucker is now considering an MBA and advises new students to not give up.
“Give it a chance,” she said. “The first two weeks of every class are the hardest when you’re getting to know the professor. After two weeks, you get some momentum and it’s much easier. Try not to procrastinate and do everything on the same day. If you spread it out, it’s much more manageable.”
Prior to joining the Memorial Hospital nursing team, Rucker served as a nurse leader in intensive care, as well as nursing supervisor for night shift nurses. She is a member of the Ohio Nurses Association, Ohio Organization of Nurse Executives and the Emergency Nurses Association.
Please join us in congratulating Jodi on this extraordinary achievement!
